God Called Samuel – Biblical Stories with Moral Lessons – For kids

biblical stories God calls Samuel

Am I too young for God to use me?

Kids, God does not look at your age for Him to use you. In today’s story, we look at a young boy named Samuel, who hears the voice of God calling him.

The name Samuel means “one who hears God.”

1 Samuel 3

Samuel’s mother, Hannah, prayed to God for a child and God answered her. When Samuel was still very young, his mother brought him to the temple and Samuel grew up in the temple with Eli the priest.

Samuel served the Lord by helping Eli, the priest in the temple. One night, as Eli was lying down in his own place, his eyesight had now grown dim and he could not see well. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.

Then the Lord called Samuel, “Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” He got up and ran to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” Eli replied, “I didn’t call you. Go back to bed.” So he did. Then the Lord called out again, “Samuel!” Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?”“I didn’t call you my son,” Eli said. “Go back to bed.”

Samuel did not yet know the Lord’s voice because he had never heard the Lord before. So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?”

Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling Samuel and said to him, lie down again, and if you hear the call again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!”

And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” And the Lord spoke to Samuel and give him a message about what was going to happen to Eli and his family. The next morning, Eli asked Samuel what God said to him.

Samuel was afraid to tell him what God had told him. But after Eli demanded, he told him everything God had said to him. And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

This began Samuel’s Prophet ministry.

*A prophet is someone who speaks on behalf of God and carries God’s message to others*

From an early age, Samuel worked in the temple of God, helping Eli and you can work for God by helping and serving others. God does not look at your age for him to use you. Always listen and be obedient. And He will use you to do great things for His kingdom.
